MacGregor Collegiate has its students as excited as ever to return from their Spring Break. Students at MCI will have this coming week off for their annual spring break but once they are back, athletics will be back too.

The school is opening up practicing for a few different sports where they can abide by provincial guidelines. Principal Kyle Mckinstry talks about some of the biggest benefits he sees coming from this.

"It's going to allow our students from different cohorts to get together after school to reconnect through sport," says Mckinstry. "It's going to allow them to participate in activities which will be a great stress reliever."

Mckinstry says he has already seen a shift to a more positive mindset for many students who like to be involved in athletics. He notes it's been nearly a calendar year since these students had their outlet to be active among their peers and he's so glad they can finally give them that opportunity back. Mckinstry outlines what sports they will be having back.

"Volleyball, track & field, along with baseball," Mckinstry says. "Two of those activities will take place outside, and at this point in time, public health orders restrict us to ten people. For this time, it's strictly going to be practices."

He adds volleyball players will also be restricted to ten players on the court at a time with the use of masks. Mckinstry says masks are only mandatory on coaches and players sitting close to one another on the bench for outdoor sports, but these athletes can take them off while in action.

This will begin on Monday, April 5th and Mckinstry notes the athletes are absolutely thrilled about the opportunity.
