Dakota Tipi rolled out its vaccination program last month.

Chief Eric Pashe brings us up to date, noting the program for his community is working in two phases.

"So within that, we had ten of our older population of membership vaccinated," says Pashe. "They were given the priority. It was prescribed to us in the guidelines that membership 70 years of age and older should be given the priority to receive the vaccination first. So, we did the first ten vaccination regime for ten of our elder population here in Dakota Tipi."

He notes they're soon to receive further doses for the rest of the community.

"Around April 1st, we are scheduled to receive 180 vaccinations," adds Pashe. "Within that, it was prescribed by First Nations health officials that our on-reserve population of everyone 18 years of age and older should receive it."

Pashe adds he hopes all will turn out for the vaccine and that there will be good acceptance of it. This will mean that everyone in the community will have been vaccinated within the month of April.

Dakota Tipi is administering the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine.
