Central Plains Capitals blasted the visiting Kenora Thistles this afternoon in Manitoba AAA Midget Hockey League action at the BDO Centre in Portage la Prairie.

It was a 9-2 triumph, with the Caps' Jared Roy recording a hat trick and an assist.

The first period was close, with the Caps taking a 1-0 lead into the intermission, thanks to Chance Dickenson's marker at 16:15.

Jared Roy got his first of the game at 1:28 of the second, on the power play, making the score 2-0.

Austin Friesen made it 3-0 just under 4 minutes later, also with the man advantage.

The Thistles got on the board at 12:46, when Adam Withers beat Duncan McGovern.

Jared Roy restored the Caps' three-goal lead on another power play at 14:30.

Braden Frank made it 5-1 at 14:48, and Roy completed his three-goal performance at 18:28, for a 6-1 lead at the end of the second.

Kenora responded to start the third, as Devon Krolyk scored to make it 6-2, but that was all the Thistles could muster.

The Caps poured in another three from Braden Frank, with his second, Jared Hulme, and Reilly Funk.

Duncan McGovern was the winning goalie, facing 23 shots in just over 53 minutes of action. AP call-up Reilly Sveistrup 6 minutes and 29 seconds, and saw only one shot.

Devon Caren took the loss between the pipes for Kenora.

The Caps now have a 9 point lead on Brandon for 4th spot in the standings, although the Wheat Kings have a game in hand.
