It's become clear summer is coming to an end sooner rather than later. Look no further for evidence than the Portage Skating Club hosting registration this week.

Another week closer to the end of summer, but not before we get out there and take in some of the awesome events that are the happ this week in Portage.

- Proof that summer is almost over is in our new contest, the Back 2 School Blitz. Hard to believe students and teachers go back in early September, but we'll make things a little easier, and comfortable, with a chance to win a brand new Queen Size Sealy Posterpedic Bed from Dino's! Plus great prizes from Keystone Sports Excellence and Pure Footwear.

- Tuesday (Aug 23) the Portage Skating Club will be holding their first registration for the upcoming season. Anyone interested in the Canskate, Starskate and Star Group programs, be at the PCU between 6-8pm. Can't make it, don't worry, a second registration will be held on September 8, same time, same place.

- Speaking of registrations, Portage Minor Hockey is taking theirs through their website as of today. Volunteer shift night is September 8 at the PCU Centre from 6-8.

- Tupper Street Family Resource Centre has been putting the fun in family fun this summer. The wind up for their Family Fun Days is this Thursday (Aug 25) from 10am-12pm, with activities, crafts, snacks and of course fun for the whole family. It's a free event, but make sure to register ahead of time by calling 204-239-3986.

- Get your quiz on with Big Brothers, Big Sisters! Form a team of eight and test your knowledge Saturday night (Aug 27) at Trinity United Church. $120 a team, with homemade pizza and cold drinks available for purchase. Register now by emailing portagetrivia@gmail.com

- Nothing beats a good 'ol carnival, like the one the Portage Evangelical Church is hosting Saturday (Aug 27) from 2-6pm. Plus, it's a western theme so be sure to be decked out in your cowboy/cowgirl hat and boots and take in all the games and activities.

- For the first time ever Portage la Prairie will be hosting a Pride March to come together and show support for the LGBTTQ community. It's on Saturday (Aug 27) at 11am, with face painting and warm up taking place at 10am in the PCRC parking lot. There is a social happening in the evening, which I hope you have your tickets, cause it's sold out. Get more details on the days activities here.

- The Prairie Ripples Art Tour is this weekend. The annual event gives you a behind the scenes look at the process of some local artists and get a first glance at their recent work while you tour their workshops. It is a free event that goes Saturday (Aug 27) and Sunday (Aug 28). More info on the event can be found on their website.

- Attention golfers: the MacGregor Golf Club has their ladie's tournament Saturday (Aug 27, 10am shotgun start) and the $40 fee includes your golf and lunch. The following day (Aug 28) is the junior tourney. Shotgun start is 10am. 12 years old and under will golf nine holes while 13-18 years of age will play 18. Call the golf club at 204-685-3100 to register for either tournament.

- Bombers, NFL preseason and now the Pitbulls! Lots of great football action but the only way to take it in here in Portage is by heading to Republic Park on Sunday (Aug 28) for a full days worth of it. Bantam Pitbulls this week play the Falcons at 10:30am. The Atoms take on St. Vital Black at 1pm, and last but not least the Cruncher Pitbulls have their first game of the season when they take on St. Vital Black at 3:30pm. Get out there and cheer on all three teams!
