The Portage Trojans Boys JV basketball team fought a hard battle on Thursday night and came out with the win. It was the Shaftesbury Titans from Winnipeg who gave it their all and came up short.

After leading much of the game, the Trojans let off the gas in the fourth quarter, allowing the Titans back in the game. The final seven minutes of the game saw numerous lead changes as the game seemed like it was perched on a teeter-totter. In the end, it was Alex Joel of the Trojans who gave them the win at the buzzer.  The final score was 92-89. He shared his thoughts on how his team played tonight.

"We played all right, we caved on some possessions and we thrived on others."

Joel also added that it felt great to score the game-winning bucket at the buzzer. He led the Trojans with 19 points on the night.

Trojans coach Darin Arnold said that it couldn't get more exciting than this for the team's first league game. Arnold also notes that the team needs to tighten up defensively but is happy that the team was able to hold onto the win going into the Christmas break.

The Trojans won't play again until the first week of the New Year and won't play at home until January 11th.
