The Portage Collegiate Trojans hockey team dropped their third straight game last night.

They fell 3-1 to the Morris Mavericks at home. The Trojans had some really good chances in this one, unfortunately there just wasn't enough of them.

Halfway through the first period, Dylan Lee brought the puck into the zone and made both defenders miss. He attempted to slide the puck through the goalie's 5-hole but the pad save was made.

With just three minutes to go in the opening period, Damon Johnson took a shot from the slot which was stopped by Jero Rossi but the rebound was tapped in by Cody Clark. 1-0 Mavericks.

Just over a minute into the second, PCI turned the puck over in the defensive zone and Mason French capitalized sniping one top shelf making it 2-0 for Morris.

About halfway through the second frame, Carson Dubois beat the Morris defenders to the puck after a dump. He picked it up near the side of the net skated in front of the goalie and tried to tuck it in on the far side but was stopped by the sprawling goaltender.

Two minutes into the final period, the Mavericks grabbed their own rebound near the side of the net put in on the goal but Rossi stretched out to make an incredible pad save.

Five minutes later, the Mavericks had a 2-on-1 chance, French passed it up to Teagan Fillion was stopped by Rossi but French was there for the rebound giving him two on the day. 3-0 Morris.

With just under ten minutes left of play, the Trojans were on the power-play. Brandon Ferg made a short pass to Andy Young who threw a shot on net and it went between the goalie's pads getting PCI on the board.

This was as close as PCI was able to get making the final score 3-1.

Goaltender Jero Rossi made 53 saves in this game despite the loss. He outlines what the Trojans needed to do better today.

"We need to be picking up our man better," says Rossi. "We needed to catch guys in front of the net more. We also have to make the right passes and get it out of the zone when in need."

Rossi notes that they were missing a few of their top players today but he doesn't think that affected the outcome.

"It wasn't that bad," says Rossi. "We can take any team in the league without our top four players, we just have to gear down and play as a team."

The Trojans will look to get back in the win column tomorrow as they hit the road for a battle with the Notre Dame Mustangs.
