The Portage Collegiate Saints were victorious in their first playoff game of the year today. They were able to take down Fort Richmond Collegiate in three straight sets scored 25-9, 25-15, and 25-11.

The first set saw multiple booming hits from the Saints powers, those being Carleigh Smith-Banfield and Devon Borody. In the second set, the game was tied at four before PCI went on a 10-0 run which was the difference in the set. The final set was dominated by Shaye-Lynn Buhler who had multiple hits out of the middle position and added an ace as well.

Head coach Derek Casper describes what he liked about the girls' performance.

"The girls were swinging well," says Casper. "We wanted to work on (hitting out of) middle so we tried setting a lot of that to try and get in the right tempo for our next game. We also tried to force a right side set a little more often. I thought we accomplished that in this game."

These two teams faced off on Tuesday for the final game of the regular season and that game wasn't as close as this one was. Casper outlines why he thinks that was the case.

"They dug a couple of nice balls and stuff like that," says Casper. "I think they had an extra couple of girls that they didn't have last time which obviously makes a difference. I found that we were making a lot of unforced errors, maybe that's why it was a little closer, but I feel like if we clean that stuff up we'll be okay."

The Saints will play their semi-final matchup on Wednesday, November 13th in Winnipeg against the Westwood Warriors.
