You've probably noticed a new "Yield" sign in the middle of Crescent Road at 4th Street Southwest. Portage city councillor Melissa Draycott says the sign is a new traffic calming measure which was recently installed near the crosswalk at that corner. Draycott notes it's been very effective in slowing people down at the little "S" curve there in the road, adding the purpose of the sign is to ensure that drivers are aware of the crosswalk and will yield the right of way to pedestrians.

She says the new pedestrian crossings which the city put in all along the street this summer are great additions to Crescent Road. Draycott notes it's a good way to slow traffic down a bit and to help people get safely from one side of the road over to the walking and biking path.
