An incredible performance by Canadian country superstar George Canyon echoed across Crescent Lake last night, signalling the end of the 2017 Portage Potato Festival.

"Today was awesome," says Cindy McDonald, Co-chair of the Festival. "The weather was amazing, we had around 200 cars at our car show with amazing vehicles. Thousands of people came through so it was just a fantastic day. We wrapped it up with our big headliner George Canyon who was fantastic. We're really excited about everything, it's been a great one this year."

Canyon took the stage around 9:30 p.m. and finished well into the evening. He says Manitoba is like a second home because he's got some family in the province.

"This is my first Potato Festival and I didn't get any free french fries but I probably don't need them anyway. Trying to watch my figure" he laughs. "Just getting to play music and getting to have a night like this, you can't ask for anything better than it in the summer. It was a great night for this."

Over 3000 baskets of fries were handed out at the Festival and hundreds took in the final show of the night. McDonald thanks all the volunteers for their support through the event and is excited for next year. Festival clean up is underway Sunday.
