Great goaltending and an excellent power play propelled the Portage Terriers to a 3-0 road win Wednesday night over the Steinbach Pistons. Lasse Petersen made 30 saves for his first shutout as a Terrier and Jeremey Leipsic picked up a point on all three goals.

Playing their second game in as many nights the Pistons started slowly. Both teams traded chances in the first period with Matthew Thiessen (Steinbach) and Petersen (Portage) making highlight reel saves. Ty Barnstable cleaned up a Troy Williams point shot to open the scoring halfway through the frame.

The second period was similar to the first; Portage scored on a rebound midway through. Leipsic collected the puck on the power play and slid it around the pad of a sprawling Thiessen. The Terriers put the game out of reach late in the third. With Austin Heidmann in the box for slashing, James McIsaac picked up a loose puck and scored his team leading 11th of the season.

It wasn’t a very physical game, except for a late scrum with six seconds left to play. The Terriers were 2/5 with the man advantage. Portage is 3-0 against the Pistons this season and three of Steinbach’s four regulation losses are against the Terriers.

The Dogs are back in action Friday night in Dauphin at 7:30 pm. The game will be broadcast on CFRY and portageonline starting with the pregame show at 7:20 pm.
