A strong second period propelled the Portage Terriers to a 6-3 win Wednesday night over the Steinbach Pistons in MJHL action. Playing in enemy territory the Terriers had a balanced attack; six different players scored.

Portage opened things up halfway through the first period on the power play. James McIsaac slammed home a loose rebound in the crease. Braden Purtill tied the game for the Pistons five minutes later off of a face-off. Before the end of the first, Joey Moffatt restored the Terrier lead snapping a shot under the crossbar from the mid slot. It was an even first period with Steinbach outshooting Portage 14-10.

The ice started to tilt in favour of the Terriers in the second. After a few penalties early in the frame, Jeremey Leipsic buried a nice rebound as a Piston penalty expired. Matthew Thiessen struggled to control another bounce less than two minutes later and Rylee Zimmer scored his first as a Terrier. Zimmer was acquired earlier this week for Daniel McKitrick.

When it rains it pours. The Terriers added two more goals in the last three minutes of the second. Ty Barnstable poked in a loose puck and Cole Oliver fired one home off the rush. For Oliver it was also his first as a Terrier. That would be the end of the night for Thiessen who let in six goals on 25 shots. Matt Radomsky started the third period in net for Steinbach.

The Pistons came out strong in the third period aided by a series of Terrier penalties. Darby Gula and Declan Graham found the back of the net but the game was too far out of reach. Brock Aiken picked up his fifth win of the season stopping 29 of 32 shots.

The Terriers now look to the weekend where they play in Waywayseecappo on Saturday and against Neepawa on Sunday at Stride Place.
