Even as most in-person events have returned as COVID restrictions were lifted, Stock Talk continues for producers throughout Manitoba.

Forage Specialist with Manitoba Agriculture in Portage la Prairie, Shawn Cabak, says the events have been quite successful, and that's why they've kept them going. He says the convenience of each presentation is clearly beneficial to producers across the province.

"Stock Talk is a virtual webinar where producers can join from the comfort of their home from their computer, iPad, or their smartphone," says Cabak. "They don't have to go anywhere. They just log in to the link and then they can listen to the various livestock and forage specialists that we have presenting on a monthly basis."

The first Stock Talk for the season took place in December when they discussed cattle feed and nutrition. January saw a conversation about Beef and Forage Week. Cabak says the February session (held Thursday) showed a lot of optimism.

"We're seeing really strong cattle prices at the end of 2022 and starting off into 2023," says Cabak. "We had a couple of cattle marketing presentations. One was a cattle market update for 2023 from Rick Wright Cattle Consulting and then we had Allan Monroe of Killarney Auction Mart talk about prepping calves for sale."

March's presentation will be about Forage Management, while Forage Rejuvenation and Pasture Management will be discussed in April. If you miss the free one-hour sessions live, you can watch on-demand online. Find more information here.
