A long-time project at Arborg Collegiate, in the Evergreen School Division's been completed.

Principal Randy Semenek says after six years of fundraising, followed by construction, a new track's ready to go. He calls it exciting for the school, which will host its first zone championships May 27th and 29th.

"It's amazing the amount of things that have to go into planning an event like this," he says, "I think a lot of people -- certainly us included -- didn't realize the scope of all the other stuff you need to do to hold an event, all the equipment, all the organizing, but I think we're all set."

Semenek says six years of fundraising was a community initiative.

"Judy Nichol, Arlene Perry, Tom Shwalaboga, Shelley Burak did an incredible job of campaigning endlessly to raise about a quarter of a million dollars all through donations, and through our partnerships with the school division, the town, and the RM."

Semenek can't say enough great things about the community support.
