It was a big night for PCI in West Winnipeg Athletic Conference Tier 2 junior varsity basketball last night.

The junior varsity Trojans won 63-47 over the Stonewall Rams at Portage Collegiate. The Trojans looked great through three quarters, but only managed 8 points in the fourth compared to Stonewall's 17. Trojans' Grade 9 player Tristan Cordeiro had 10 points in the victory, and talks about what was different in the fourth.

"In the fourth quarter we just didn't look for passes as well as we did in the first half. We just didn't get good looks."

With the win the Trojans move to 2-5 on the season, Cordeiro says they've taken some big steps forward lately.

"At first, we had some trouble. But now -- like over time -- we've gotten better, a lot better."

The PCI junior varsity Saints also earned a victory last night in Portage. They narrowly edged out the Rams 28-25, in a game that came right down to the final buzzer. Saints' Grade 10 -- and first year player -- Trinity Hunter didn't get any points, but played an integral part defensively in the game.

She says the girls really support each other on the court.

"We stuck with positive thinking in the beginning and we didn't let that go. We played really good, we set up and practiced what we learned, and overall we did great."

The Saints and Trojans are back in action Wednesday. The Jv Trojans are at Westwood, the Jv Saints are at John Taylor.
