There's a sense of excitement at Portage Day Care Inc. as they prepare for the opening of their newest location. Executive Director Lisa Voth says construction of the new facility at Southport is well underway, and they're hoping to open for business in May. While the construction's making progress, Voth notes there's still work to be done on their end. She notes they'll need to raise about $75,000 to have the space ready to go.

"Right now we're applying for grants and looking for money. We're responsible for putting in flooring, cabinetry, painting, appliances, child and adult furniture, and things like that. We are still currently looking for some grant money, and we're doing fundraisers."

She notes their next fundraiser is set for March, when they host a chase the ace event. Despite the work ahead, Voth says they're thrilled to see the new facility moving forward. She explains the opening of the new centre will benefit not only those in Southport, but also families in Portage.

"It will mean more spaces for more families. This will be exclusively for military, employees or students at Southport, and residents of Southport. We're going to try and take care of that particular community, and have spaces out there so maybe spaces will free up in town here as well."

On top of the benefits for families in the region, Voth says there's the added benefit of job creation.
