A consultant with the Addictions Foundation of Manitoba in Portage supports the province's investment towards taking down meth labs.

Police have been provided with additional protective gear, allowing for a more co-ordinated force.

Barry Rud stresses the police are subject to dangerous conditions during a take down.  Not only are the chemical ingredients highly flammable, but the environment's air also holds high toxicity levels.

The co-chair of Manitoba's Meth Task Force believes the investment will increase productivity as the RCMP no longer have to supplement Winnipeg with their equipment.

He adds there's police knowledge confirming the existence of meth labs in rural Manitoba.
