The government of Manitoba is making it easier for people to enjoy provincial parks, as they've made them free to enter over Labour Day long weekend.

Jeff Wharton made the announcement, saying vehicle permits will not be required from September 2nd to the 5th, but regular fees will still apply for campground usage.

"The diversity of landscapes and waterways throughout Manitoba’s provincial parks provide a broad range of recreational and relaxing activities to suit any taste," says Wharton. "This long weekend may mark the start of the transition from summer to fall, but there’s still time to participate in your favourite warm-weather activities and with free provincial park access this weekend, there’s no reason not to."

In order to preserve the park, the province is asking those that go to do their part in making sure the spread of invasive species is stopped. They ask that firewood is always obtained and burned locally to curb the spread of emerald ash borers.

The province also wants to make sure its camp goers are water-smart, which includes wearing appropriate life jackets, never swimming alone, and being within arm’s reach of young children.
