As the temperature eases for the first time in a while, citizens of Portage la Prairie are looking to enjoy a brief moment of warmer weather.

"We got a heck of a lot of snow here and it's been so cold I haven't gone out to shovel any," says a Portage resident who's been dealing with the snowfalls that feel like they've been almost constant. "But, today I'm going to go out and at least clean off my back step."

People from around the community are excited to have a day where they don't need to be fully bundled up just to have a 30-second trip to the car. While Portagers may be excited, pets might be even more excited as some owners didn't want them going outside in the cold.

"Looks like I'm going to take my dog for a walk." says an excited Portager. "It'll be a good day for some headphones and music."

"I think today I'm going to take my kitten out for a walk, it's such a beautiful day," notes another community member.

"It's so nice today," one man responded when asked about his plans. "I think I'm going to spend my day shovelling and making room for more snow."

Some others are taking the warmer weather as a sign to finally get out on the ice.

"Got my skates sharpened," notes one community member, "I'm going to finally hit up some (outdoor rinks) today."
