A snowmobiling accident yesterday near Ste. Rose has resulted in a warning from the RCMP about potential dangers.

15 year old Evan Lecomte of Winnipeg died when he hit a hydro pole guide wire. Portage RCMP Constable Dave Spakowski points out it's important to be aware of the terrain, particularly now, when there isn't much snow.

He adds riding on ice isn't a good idea, noting drowning is one of the leading causes of snowmobiling fatalities. Spakowski says the ice is especially dangerous now, due to the mild weather we've had most of the month.

Neither speed or alcohol were involved in the youth's death, but Spakowski reminds riders it's an offence to drive under the influence. He adds a conviction can mean the loss of all driving privileges.
