Sending your child off to school for the first time is a big deal and the first milestone in any student's academic career. Now, children born in 2017 are getting ready to receive that opportunity in the fall.

Pam Garnham, assistant superintendent, explains that Kindergarten Registration Week is until the end of the week throughout the division.

"If you know you're going to register your child for the fall, it would really help and benefit the division if you could register this week. It is so we have a good idea of how many kids that we will have in each of the schools so we can look at staffing."

She says that those interested in enrolling their child in French immersion must contact École Crescentview School for further information.

Garnham adds that usually, in the spring, the division designates a few days to a "Welcome to Kindergarten" theme, which helps children get climatized to a place that they will be spending a fair bit of time in the fall. Like many things, though, COVID-19 has made things different.

"Because of COVID the last two years, we've had to do it in different ways. But we're hoping with the protocols in place this year, we might be able to open it up a little bit more."

Garnham did note that while registering this week will help the division and your student, you still can sign your child up for kindergarten after this week as well.
