The RCMP received several calls from motorists who were stranded due to the blizzard on February 1st.

According to the RCMP, many of the stranded motorists said they either didn't have the proper clothing for the blizzard, or they didn't have the gas necessary to keep their car's heater running. Highway #1 was closed for safety reasons, but some drivers ignored the closures, which led to them putting themselves and others in danger.

If the weather leads to road closures, emergency services may not be able to make it to you as quickly as they otherwise would. The RCMP recommends you keep supplies in your vehicle so it's safe to stay in for a couple of hours at least.

The RCMP would like to make sure everyone gets home safely and wants you to make the right decision when getting on the road.
