Last night in the Winnipeg Men's Fastball League the Phillies were hosting the Manitoba Masters and part one of the twinbill went to the Masters with a 5-3 final but Portage roared back and took the second contest 7-0.

Phillies pitcher, Gregg Waldvogel, says in the first game Portage put up solid numbers in the hit column with 12, especially considering the formidable hurler they were up against, and they built up a 3-1 lead. However, he adds the Phillies just couldn't finish and the Masters had a great inning in which they scored three runs off a triple en route to victory.

For the evening's second installment the Phillies got their bats fired up, and Waldvogel says the combined result of producing numerous hits and playing strong defence, which included a few double plays, made for a nice comeback to close out the night. Overall, Waldvogel notes that the Phillies played well in both match ups, but it was a case of ill timing in game one that led to their falling short in that contest, adding he feels things are beginning to gel for his team.

Following last night the Phillies have had 3 splits this year, and are sporting a record of 7-5. This Sunday Portage will attend a tournament in Notre Dame before returning to league action next Thursday versus Landmark at home.
