Two goals weren't enough for Portage last night as they fell 5-2 to the Virden Oil Capitals at Tundra Oil and Gas Place. It was the second of an exhibition home and home series with the Oil Capitals which Portage won the first.

Hometown product Reilly Funk opened the scoring for Portage in the first but the lead would be short lived. Returning veteran Dylan Thiessen tied the game for the Oil Capitals less than five minutes later. The second period was dominated by Virden as they scored three straight from Josh Belcher, Morgan Magwood and Drayson Skulmoski. Thiessen would add his second of the night at the start of the third period to make it 5-1. Portage drew back with in three on a late goal from returning defenseman Cody Thompson.

Returning veterans Turner Santin, Jared Roy, Lane Taylor, Cody Thompson, Aidan Buhler, Nick Doyle, and Ty Barnstable were all in the lineup for their first preseason action. Turner Ripplinger and Cole Thompson who were acquired in the off season via trade both got their first look as a Terrier. Last year's starting goalie Brock Aiken played half the game and stopped 17 of the 19 shots he faced.

The Terriers will continue to evaluate their team and make cuts as they approach the start of the season on Sept 22nd. Their next exhibition tilt is this Thursday in Winnipeg against the Blues.
