A man from Sandy Bay First Nation is facing charges following an assault and search of a residence in the community.

Members of the Manitoba First Nations Police Service (MFNPS) were investigating a domestic assault on June 15. The investigation led to a search warrant and further charges for drugs and weapons possession on Lake Road in Sandy Bay.

Police searched the residence and seized 13 firearms, numerous types of ammunition, drug paraphernalia consistent with drug trafficking, approximately 35.1 pounds of Cannabis, 6.2 grams of suspected cocaine and close to $24,000.00 in cash.
 
A 63-year-old man from Sandy Bay was charged with the following offences: 

  • Possess Cannabis for the Purpose of Selling 
  • Possess Cannabis for the Purpose of Distribution 
  • Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking 
  • Assault 
  • Uttering Threats 
  • Careless Storage of a Firearm X 9 

MFNPS say the accused cannot be named to protect the identity of the victim of the domestic assault.
