With I Love To Read Month just around the corner, the Mayor of Portage la Prairie wants to help garner some excitement.

Mayor Sharilyn Knox attended the Portage la Prairie Regional Library on January 28th to read for a storytime session. She says she got to read a few different books for the approximately 15 people in attendance.

"I like the saying, 'reading just gives you adventure,'" explains Knox. "So, whether it's in your mind or learning about new things, I think it's something that everybody needs to learn to do."

The stories she read included one about community heroes and kindness, and the other was about a library bear.

Mayor Knox believes that reading can be the perfect hobby for someone looking to expand their horizons. She adds that in the coming days, she'll attend different schools throughout the Portage la Prairie School Division to read for some students.

"I'm starting off at Fort la Reine School on January 31st," notes Knox. "Then I have a bunch of other ones scheduled throughout the month of February. So, I'm looking very forward to seeing all the kids."

Knox also extends her thanks to those at the library for being wonderful hosts and always looking to push the boundaries of what they can achieve.
