A colourful weekend in MacGregor is working wonders for the town's trail system.

The MacGregor Colour Fun Run & Walk was held on Sunday, September 17th, which saw community members and tourists end the five-kilometre route covered in many different colours.

Karla Gurke with the Heartland Recreation Commission says they started the event last year when they received grant money to do something for families that included physical activity.

"You don't see many colour runs around here, you only see them in bigger cities, so I thought, what the heck, let's try it," explains Gurke. "We got a donation from Roquette Canada (this year), so we thought, let's do it again."

She adds that the money raised from the event will be going into an active transportation system in the Rural Municipality of North Norfolk. The goal is to have walk and bike trail systems in MacGregor, Austin, and Sidney.

Colour Run

"There's not enough words to express how much our community and the municipality give back," says Gurke. "I hope that every other community has that as well."

The Heartland Recreation Commission has the town's third Colour Fun Run & Walk set for September 15, 2024.
