The Portage Junk Yard Dogs is a club made to promote cycling for recreational and sporting purposes. They have received a grant from the Community Foundation of Portage and District in order to make new trails for their members and other citizens. Bob Gunther, President of the club, explains this grant.

"Our club, through a generous grant from the Community Foundation of Portage and District, were able to purchase a groomer," Gunther says. "That groomer allows us to groom trails for several different sports, including fast biking and cross-country skiing. We've received permission through the city to develop some different trails at the Manitoba Rotary Park."

Gunther also says they are trying to promote more activities other than cycling, such as skiing, snowshoeing as well as hiking.

"The commitment of the Portage Junk Yard Dogs Cycling Club is to promote primarily cycling, within the area of Portage and District and throughout Manitoba," Gunther claims. "This situation morphs into a broader opportunity to promote recreation of any kind to the city and to any tourists visiting the city."

The President of the Portage Junk Yard Dogs also says that they appreciate anyone who uses the trails and buys a membership as well as to visit their website.
