The Community Foundation of Portage and District (CFPD) received a large $25,000 donation today as a part of a new designated fund from Portage's Kozy Korner Seniors.

Kozy Korner Seniors spokesperson Elaine Cairns says they've decided to close their doors at the end of the month. She explains where the money will go through the foundation.

"It's going to be under Kozy Korner Seniors fund, and we've designated three places. Central Plains Cancer Services, the Heart and Stroke Foundation, and the Alzheimer's Society," Cairns says.

CFPD Vice President Gail Patterson explains how the funds will be used.

"It'll be good because any of the money that is investment interest that we get from that will be returned to their different requested charities," says Patterson.

Cairns says they decided to close Kozy Korner due to dwindling member numbers. They've been in operation since 1973. The donation to CFPD allows their legacy of generosity to live on throughout the community.
