The Portage Islanders took to the ice in South Eastern Manitoba Hockey League action tonight. They were facing off against the Notre Dame Hawks. The Hawks are the top team in the league and the Islanders managed to contain them for two and a half periods. Portage gave up two goals in the last ten minutes of the third to fall 4-2.

Portage and Notre Dame were fighting tooth and nail with each other all night and it was a 2-2 game midway through the third when the Hawks would break the tie. They would score one more goal after that. The Islanders played an aggressive, hard-nosed style and seemed to be on even footing with the Hawks but Notre Dame cashed in on two rebound goals when they needed them.

The Islanders are back on the ice on Saturday, February 10th when they head to Warren to take on the Mercurys. Puck drop is 8:00 pm.
