The spotlight shone on a number of families who've immigrated to Portage, at last Saturday's Canada Day festivities.

Among them were Michael and Annette Hetzel. They're originally from Germany, and have been here since early November of 2005. Michael says they enjoyed Canada Day, especially with so many friendly people.

While there's been some adjustment to living in Portage, he notes it hasn't been much, because their way of life isn't that different from Canada's.

For Hetzel, the most important thing Manitoba offers is plenty of space for every person. He's impressed with how people treat each other, pointing to the support he and Annette have received from their neighbours.
