The spookiest night of the year was a success for the Fort la Reine Museum this past weekend.

Roughly 700 people took part in the Fright at the Museum event Friday and Saturday night.

Executive Director Madison Connolly says it's an event they look forward to each year and after a one-hear hiatus due to the pandemic, she is happy to be back.

"It's a very immersive Halloween event that takes visitors through the museum grounds and the corn maze as they interact with different seasonal activities. So for example, there is a spider web obstacle course, some seasonal carnival games, bonfire and stories, and ghost stories and folklore. We even have ROK Central Inc. doing a team making craft snack station. And a corn maze quest. There's so much to do and it's just a fun time."

Connolly says she was thrilled to see the excitement for the event as it sold out quickly. She adds it's always positive to teach people about Portage la Prairie's past.

"It's part of our mandate to make sure that we are educating local visitors and tourists alike about the history of our region and doing so in a fun and entertaining way is a way to be palatable for all audiences. Halloween is a great opportunity to highlight some of the darker parts of history. That's an opportunity we really don't try and miss every year."
