On October 22nd, around midnight, Manitoba First Nations Police Officers were called to a residence in Sandy Bay First Nation after reports of an intoxicated man alleged to be in possession of a firearm.

The MFNPS officers attended to the residence immediately and were able to detain the suspect. The officers got to him quickly as he was exiting a vehicle in the driveway of the residence. Upon investigation, they found evidence of the suspect putting the rifle to his throat.

The 19-year-old male was taken into custody and charged with the following:

  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Unsafe storage of a firearm
  • Possession of a firearm when possession is unauthorized
  • Failure to comply with an undertaking

The suspect was remanded in custody to appear in court at a later date.
