The RM of Alonsa has a new reeve.

Tom Anderson was elected to the position earlier this week - receiving 231 votes to John Cabak's 128.

"It feels really good," says Anderson of the election win. "I'm glad that so many people got out and voted. It feels like it was a long campaign sitting at phone, it was kind of disappointing to not be able to go around and visit with people face to face."

Anderson, who was a member of the RM's council for eight years and a member of the local watershed district for 14, says he decided to run for reeve as he enjoys playing an active role in the community. He says his goals in the new position include reconstruction of some older roads in the municipality, as well as working together with the Westlake Watershed District, council, and rate-payers to improve the watershed infrastructure. Anderson notes cell service is also a big issue in the municipality.

"So many people would love to see the cell service improved, and so would I," explains Anderson. "So one of the things that I'm going to do is contact the service providers to see if there isn't some way that we could improve our service out here."

Anderson adds the current council is an experienced one, and he's looking forward to working with them.
