Some sectors of the tourism industry are upset the federal government has ended the GST rebate program for foreign visitors.

They claim it will hurt business. However, the feds say only a small percentage took advantage of the program.

Wade Duncan of Portage's MacDonald's Sporting Goods serves American outdoors people, and doesn't believe his business will be affected, although he acknowledges other areas may be.

In one way, he's happy the GST rebate isn't available anymore, adding Canadians should get tax breaks first.

Duncan cautions about going too far, however. He notes travellers can go elsewhere, and doesn't want to see them alienated.
