It's been a while since a military parade took place in Portage la Prairie.

That's changing this evening as a parade will take place to commemorate the 75th anniversary of D-Day.

Bob Oldford is the President of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #65, and he notes all are welcome to attend, and veterans are encouraged to partake.

"Come on and join us downtown," says Oldford. "Whether you are a veteran and want to parade with us, we'd be glad to have you, whether you want to honour a veteran and be there. Maybe someone from your family that gave the sacrifice. You're more than welcome to join us either at the Cenotaph or even join us in the parade."

The RCMP, the Manitoba First Nation Police Service, the 3CTFFS School, Army Cadets, and Air Cadets will be in attendance.

Oldford recounts three individuals passed away on D-Day from the Portage area, and one other passed days later due to his injuries. He shares, this really brings it home.

Oldford explains the parade will begin at the Legion on Duke Avenue at 5:00 p.m. and will proceed to the Cenotaph downtown. Following a ceremony, the parade will make it's way back to the legion for 6:00 p.m.
