A Portage Collegiate Institute Class of '79 reunion is taking place this month. It happens June 21st and 22nd. Organizing committee member Karen Faurschou says it's not as limited as one might think.

"It is open to anyone who began Grade 10 in 1976 or who attended Grade 12 in 1979," notes Faurschou. "So, it's not just limited to those in our actual graduating photo of 1979."

She notes they're holding a tour of the present-day school, followed by a social event at the Army and Navy building with music by Copper Moon. Saturday has a golf tournament in Southport, followed by a dinner catered by Bill's Sticky Fingers at Kevin Yuill's shop in town.

Yuill adds, "I'm quite looking forward to meeting people that we haven't seen for years -- both students and teachers that helped try to steer us in the right direction. It will be interesting to see some of these individuals that we haven't seen for 40 years."

Faurschou encourages you to get pre-registered, seeing as they do need numbers. To pre-register, Byrna (Bagrie) McDermid is taking registration by email at byrnamcdermid@gmail.com. Let the team know if you have any particular food allergy.

She adds many former students still live here, but may not necessarily have gotten together over the years. So, this should prove to be a great weekend.
