It's been six months since we put an "X" beside the names of potential city councillors, and councillor Terrie Porter is glad to have the chance to represent the city.

Porter says she was so grateful to hear words of encouragement following the election. She believes that her time in office has been a great learning experience, saying she's been able to fully understand the scope of her position.

"I've been on several site visits with operations, the city garage, water treatment plant, landfill, and numerous community organizations, just to name a few," mentions Porter. "I came away learning a lot. I want to say thanks to each of the directors for taking that time because it was their time to brag, they came out shining, and I took it all in like a sponge."

One of the projects that Porter is most proud of is the Saskatchewan Avenue rejuvenation project. She notes that the first phase of the project should be completed soon. If mother nature cooperates, the second phase will be completed by November, according to Porter. Phase two will consist of new sidewalks, some bike paths, green space, parking, and enhanced land drainage.

"We're all anxious to see that finished product with the lighting, the soft landscape, the trees, and the streets," notes Porter. "When we finally get to turn around and take a look and see how far we've come, it's going to be worth the pain."

Porter notes she's glad to have the opportunity to realize the vision that council has for the city.
