The Portage la Prairie City Council is making sure that you stay informed during the COVID-19 pandemic.

With the weather getting nicer, it’s more tempting to go outside, but the City wants to remind everyone to follow public health guidelines.

City Councillor Preston Meier knows this is a stressful time.

“We’re always looking for information, so we just want to make sure that everybody gets the factual information. We can’t encourage them enough to go to the Manitoba Government website for all of the COVID-19 updates, and what’s going on. Not only in our province, but in the local region as well."

He encourages you to fact check anything you may see about COVID-19 before sharing it to social media.

Meier says they have local resources to offer.

“I think the city has done a great job of putting together a COVID-19 response package on our city website. It’s as simple as going to the link, and it will give you an update of what’s going on in our city and our region.”

Council has a Connect Portage app that offers a variety of services to residents.

Meier acknowledges there have been concerns about calls, emails, and text messages that are being sent out through Connect Portage.

“We just want to make people aware, if you do see calls coming in from that number, they are legitimate pandemic updates from the City of Portage la Prairie. During this pandemic, these calls are going out to all landlines, regardless of whether you’ve signed up for (the app) or not. We encourage you to go to the City of Portage website, download the Connect Portage app, and that will keep you up to date with all the facts that are going on within our community.”
