Dauphin-Swan River-Neepawa MP Robert Sopuck notes concern for 2018, especially in the trade sector.

"We live and die by trade out here in our region, and Canada is the most trade-dependent country in the world," says Sopuck. "We do not have many levers to 'Deal with trade transgressions of other countries.' We're actually a small player. We live and die by trade law. If we don't get the right trade deals, we're going to be in serious trouble."

Also on a more local note, Sopuck says taxes for small businesses need to change back to the former system, noting we live and die by small business.

He adds softwood lumber rules are also in need of change, with Neepawa and Swan River both heavily involved in that industry. Sopuck says farming was great last year, and is hopeful that'll be repeated again in 2018.

Sopuck says he's greatly pleased with the Manitoba Climate Change and Green Plan, noting his background is in conservation and water management. He says the strong emphasis on water management made by the provincial government can mean nothing but good.
