The City and Rural Municipality of Portage la Prairie have agreed to extend their IT service deal.

The deal has been in place since June 2014 and was renewed in 2017. Councilor Brent Budz explains why they continue the partnership.

“We have a longstanding relationship with the RM on many fronts,” explains Budz. “This is one (situation) where we have the expertise here, and one that we can help the RM with it.”

He adds the initial report was read at the committee meeting of April 27th, 2022. It was asked that the city add clauses that would protect the city from potential risks, which have since been added.

“Anytime you look in an agreement that is dated and it comes up for renewal, the city needs to review these agreements to understand our liability and our risk exposure and to mitigate those as much as possible,” says Budz. “So, that's what was done in the time that management took this back. Council was happy with the second version of it and again we're happy to partner with the RM to provide these services.

The renewal will last for another five years, expiring May 31st, 2027.
