One of the Municipality of North Norfolk's councillors will have a seat on the Assiniboine Delta Aquifer Management Advisory Board. Mayor Neil Christoffersen says back in 2002 a roundtable was started to collect information from all the different parties concerned with the aquifer, noting in 2005 that morphed into the Management Advisory Board. Christoffersen says the board's goal was to coordinate all activities, report on planned implementations, and advise provincial authorities on aquifer-related conditions. He notes the board lost some momentum a few years ago but council recently received a letter from Sustainable Development Water Stewardship that they're ramping the group up again. Christoffersen adds Brad Ryz is the councillor from that area and has agreed to be part of the board.

He says the Assiniboine Delta aquifer follows the escarpment that comes down from Sidney and fingers of the aquifer come out toward Rossendale, so it's a pretty big area. Christoffersen notes the aquifer provides a lot of the water for people in the southern part of their municipality, including the Town of Sidney. He adds it's very important to preserve the health of the aquifer and to have a say in what's going on. Christoffersen says it's also essential that North Norfolk knows what other conditions could potentially exist in areas which might affect them down the line, so they can plan for the future.
