Another outbreak of anthrax has been reported in the province, this time in southeastern Manitoba.

Sandra Stephens is a disease control specialist with the Canadian Food Inspection Agency.  She says 4 operations have been affected so far in the RMs of Franklin and Stuartburn.  Stephens notes 25 animals in total have died, including 1 horse and 24 head of cattle.

Quarantines have been put in place on the affected farms, and vaccination of the remaining cattle has begun.

This is the province's second outbreak of anthrax in about a year.  Approximately 2 dozen animals died from infection last year in the RMs of Lorne, Dufferin, and Argyle.
