Those looking to see Santa Claus before he delivers his gifts this year will get the chance to do so during this year’s Rotary Parade of Lights.

Cindy McDonald, executive director of the Portage la Prairie & District Chamber of Commerce, says they finally have the chance to hold the parade like they did before the COVID-19 pandemic began. She notes they had to resort to a much smaller operation for the past few years.

“Rotary and the Chamber got together and did a little bit of brainstorming and came up with the idea of having Santa just driving around Portage and waving to people,” explains McDonald. “That went over really well. It was something for families and kids to see and have fun with.”

She adds that despite the success of those “parades,” it simply isn’t the same as having Saskatchewan Avenue lined with families enjoying the holidays together. McDonald says the parade will be held on December 2nd.

“Please mark your calendars,” says McDonald. “Start getting your floats ready. We're excited to welcome our annual parade to ring in the holiday season.”

She mentions that the plan is to have the floats start at Stride Place, then make their way to 18th Street, before heading down Saskatchewan Avenue.
