Sunset Palliative Care in Portage la Prairie looks back on 2017 and is grateful to have been able to assist the Portage District General Hospital.

"We had the completion of the two Portage hospital rooms," says Aldene Moroz, Volunteer Coordinator. "The signage is going to be going up within the next couple of weeks as to who provided donations for that. So, that's a really good thing. We're really happy. We've had great feedback from the families who say they feel like they're in a real home-setting, and loved the experience."

She notes they also received recognition this year for exceptional palliative care services and programs in our city. The award came from the honourable Sharon Carstairs Community Caring Award for Palliative Care in the Province. $1,500 dollars was awarded they're using to expand the Island Park's Memory Garden.

She says volunteers attend two conferences and they were at one in May where they learned how to work with palliative care patients. A provincial conference then took place in September, where they were thrilled to receive that award this year.

Moroz says 123 people attended their Christmas Dinner of Hope as well, whereas they began with only nine. She notes some enjoyed it so much they wanted to ensure it's on again next year.
