The RM of St. Laurent's preparing a special presentation for this summer's Canada 150 Day on July 1st.

"On Canada Day 150 we will be unveiling a monument," says reeve Cheryl Smith. "I won't go into too much detail as to what it's going to look like, but all I can say is we have an artist we retained to develop the monument with us in celebration of Canada 150."

She says they're quite excited and are asking the community to participate by designing a stone walkway to the monument. Bricks will be purchased to have residents' family names engraved on them. Smith adds she can't reveal the actual image but does note it's made out of boulders and granite, and is related to the fishing industry with a very "St. Laurent" look to it. Flagpoles will be installed around it as well.

The artist commissioned to do the work is Charles Brunet.
