Roquette Canada and Simplot are both expanding their businesses here in Portage, and also expanding their outreach to help families in need.

Communications and Public Affairs Manager with Roquette, Michelle Finley, outlines their recent effort during the pandemic.

"Roquette and Simplot joined together to sponsor Winnipeg Harvest's heroes program," says Finley. "Each company is donating enough funds to feed 20 families each. So a total of 40 families, for the month of May. Our donation purchases are an emergency food hamper which families then register to receive through Winnipeg Harvest."

She notes she's not sure if the donations are going toward the 40 families that Winnipeg Harvest already helps out in the area, or if they will go to additional families.

Finley explains it feels great and shows their commitment to being a part of the community and they're always looking for ways to give back.

"We know that COVID has impacted people across the world," continues Finley. "And certainly right here in Portage la Prairie, families are in need for various reasons. So by doing this, this is our way of ensuring that we're here for people in the time of need."
