There's still plenty of discussion about the effects of the new trade agreement between Canada, the United States, and Mexico.

It's something the Portage la Prairie Chamber of Commerce is mulling over as well.

Spokesperson Guy Moffat says there's some positivity about it.

"From the way that markets have reacted, the loss now of uncertainty as to what was going to happen has reassured the markets," he says. "And I think it's going to do the same for businesses in Canada as well. There were good points and bad points to the deal that was struck, but at the end of the day, at least we know what we're dealing with, going forward."

Moffat acknowledges local dairy producers will feel the impact, but adds they're not alone.

"The other agriculture area that this agreement has an impact on is poultry," he says. "And I think it's going to be a little bit of wait-and-see to fully understand how this is going to impact our local dairy as well as poultry producers. I think it's a little bit early to make any big call on what's going to happen."
