The third annual Sunset Palliative Care Garden Party yesterday at the Pelechaty residence in Portage la Prairie didn't enjoy the great weather of the previous two events, but it didn't deter supporters from being there.

They braved the threatening skies to help out, and Volunteer Coordinator Aldene Moroz feels it speaks to the importance of Palliative Care.

Aldene Moroz"It tells us that we're doing something right here at Sunset," she says, "As you know, we receive request all the time from families that need help. I just think it speaks volumes for our volunteers. Our volunteers are absolutely wonderful. It is very hard, and it takes a special person to volunteer in our program, and we have some of the best around."

Don Pelechaty's hosted the event each year, and stresses it's important to him, because his mother was in palliative care, prior to her death two months ago.

"At the end of life, we never think of Palliative Care, we never think of funerals, until suddenly, someone that we love is dying," he says, "And

Don PelechatyHeart and Stroke, and cancer, they get a lot of funding -- Palliative Care gets very little money."

Just under $1000 was raised yesterday, and goes toward a third palliative care room at the Portage hospital.
