Harvest time isn't here yet, but it's not that far away either.

That's from Portage la Prairie area farmer Craig Finnie, who says we could see swathers in the field around the middle of the month. He adds crops in general look good.

"In most places they're probably real good, except for where there were a few drowned out spots from early on in the spring, but the good spots will make up for that I hope."

Finnie says the crops are looking good, even though we've had plenty of rain lately.

"The crops are really coming along in the last couple of weeks -- look like they're improving all the time, and they're getting closer to harvest. Soybeans are really looking good, and edible beans look good, but they'll be further off. As far as we're concerned, some of the canola might be ready to swath in a week to ten days, and the wheat is about the same, maybe two weeks."

Finnie's already thinking about possible yields.

"I think we'll have at least a little above average -- at least average. Some people are talking about a higher crop than 2013, but we have to wait and see about that I think. So maybe if the weather just cooperates from now on, we'll have a good, easy harvest."
