The federal government's decided to extend the Canadian Armed Forces mission to Ukraine.

Selkirk-Interlake-Eastman MP James Bezan's the opposition defence critic, and supports the move, but stresses it doesn't address what Ukraine's asked for.

"They aren't providing lethal weapons that Ukraine desperately needs," he says, "They're not re-instating the supply of RADARSAT images, and they're not providing the training that Ukraine's requested for battalion-sized exercises, as well as helping with staff officers."

He adds if the Tories form the next federal government, things will change.

"We are committed to going that extra step, if we're elected as government," he says. "We believe strongly that Vladimir Putin is provoked by weakness, and by making Ukraine stronger, it will help bring an end to this conflict that's been going on since 2014."
